ACC's Doo-Dad - August 13th, 2002
A look into the life of Adam Caskey
Monday, Arby's, Mobile 4 Update
Not a bad day for a Monday. Things at work went smoothly and it was a productive day. I got some of those buffalo double-dippin' fingers from Arby's on the way home. Mmmmm, them are good. So are the Market Fresh Roast Beef & Swiss sandwiches. But, I digress...

I heard back from Nationwide in relation to my car. The latest is... the process is trying to move forward. The accident is being treated as 2 separate incidents. The first, the 360 spin out... and the second, the rear-impact from the other vehicle. The 360 caused around $1068 of damage to the car. The rear impact placed the car at a total loss. What is likely to occur is 2 claims will be filed, both under my insurance. Bringing two $500 deductibles for a total of $1000 subtracted from the total assessed value of the car. One of the $500 deductibles will likely be covered by the other driver's insurance company. Under state law, insurance companies are not required to provide a rental car in the event the car is a total loss. (at least under the insurance companies interpretation of that law)... Nevertheless, I may be able to recover some rental expense. There's also the emergency room bill, will I expect to be covered by the other driver's insurance. I'm hoping there will be some serious progress later this week when Mobile 4 is moved from Newnan to the Nationwide assessment center to be valued. This whole thing has been a royal pain, and lately, I can't help but get slightly annoyed when friends keep asking me, "So, you get your new car yet?". The reality of the situation is this... Because of the deductibles, my potential liability for the rental car, emergency room bills, the assessed market value of the Mobile 4, and the remaining balance due on the car loan... I will be VERY lucky if I come out of this breaking even financially. Right now, I could be looking at up to a several thousand dollar debt... and with no equity or car to show for it. And who knows how long this whole thing is going to drag out. Regardless of anything, it is certain that this car loan will be dissolved, and I will have to go out and look for a new car and new car loan all over again. Not a prospect I really look forward to actually. It took forever to find Mobile 4, and seemingly forever to work out the details and close the deal. I mean, I knew all along it was going to be just this much of a pain in the ass... I guess I just needed to vent about it a little. Thanks for listening.
